Scooters Pizza refuels hungry Cape Pioneer Trek cyclists

Scooters Pizza recently ensured that hungry cyclists and crew members in the Cape Pioneer Trek had a slice of the good life, by providing them with mouth-watering, carbo-loading lunches, which were consumed at various schools along the route, at the conclusion of each day’s stage.

About 440 people, including 265 riders and 174 crew members, were served around 1 500 scrumptious pizzas and over 1 000 portions of mouth-watering pasta over the course of this six day mountain bike race.

Scooters Pizza also sponsored a crew of vivacious ladies, who were on hand to provide liquid refreshment and encouragement to riders at the various water points. This is the fourth year in a row that Scooters Pizza has been a headline sponsor for the Cape Pioneer Trek.

Scooters Pizza brand manager Riaan van den Berg notes that the brand’s consistent support of the race is linked to its core philosophy of innovative business sense.

“Scooters Pizza believes wholeheartedly that our reach and impact as a company must extend the confines of our daily business, and result in tangible value being experienced in the communities in which our team members and franchisees reside.

“We are therefore pleased to have had the opportunity once again to be involved in the Cape Pioneer race, and provide a crucial boost to participating riders.  The enthusiastic response that all the cyclists displayed upon receiving their meals from us is indicative that we have succeeded in our goal of providing them with the necessary sustenance, replenishment and incentive required to excel in this gruelling race.”

Van den Berg notes that Scooters Pizza’ sponsorship of the race provided great exposure for the company, as well as the surrounding stores such as Scooters Pizza George and Scooters Pizza Uitenhage who added to the success of the event.

He adds that the sponsored Scooters Pizza lunches indirectly benefited schools in the area, as these schools did not have to fund the meals themselves, which is normally the case. As such, the schools will now be able to utilise allocated funds for other projects.

The Cape Pioneer Trek traverses two mountain ranges, and extends over the Karoo as well as the coastal forests of the garden route coast.

Scooters Pizza’s long term involvement in the Cape Pioneer trek was prompted by Taste Holdings CEO and founder Carlo Gonzaga, who previously  competed in the race, and wanted to find a way to improve the experience of riders who participate.
