Scooters Pizza creates young pizza connoisseurs through Whizzkid Week

Johannesburg, 28 June 2012 - Scooters Pizza stores across Gauteng recently had onlookers wondering why a mini master class of young pizza connoisseurs was taking place in their favourite local pizza store. With a recipe of crafty hands and creative minds, flying dough, a variety of tasty toppings and smiles all around, over 200 children from various schools recently took part in Scooters Pizza’s annual Whizzkid Week.
Whizzkid Week, which ran from 16 – 21 June, provided young fanatics with the opportunity to discover the unique art of pizza making first hand, including a tour of the Scooters Pizza store, learning about the importance of hygiene and food preparation in their kitchens, as well as the history behind delectable pizza making.

Christo Calitz, CEO of Taste Holdings Food Division says that Scooters Pizza is passionate about giving back to the communities in which it operates and initiated the programme to encourage childhood development.

“There is no better way than to celebrate Youth Day than by empowering the future of our country. Amongst the many skills that Whizzkid Week provides, it essentially improves the children’s social skills, boasts their confidence and stimulates them to be self-starters,” says Calitz.

For that reason, the programme has been successfully implemented at various stores for over a decade.
Calitz says that Whizzkid Week is an ideal opportunity for stores to give back to the community, as Scooters Pizza is not only committed to providing customers with superior tasting and quality pizzas and meal offerings, but enjoy initiating projects that benefit the younger members of the community too.

“I’m not sure who enjoyed the day more, the franchisees or the children,” chuckled Calitz. “We are delighted that through Whizzkid Week, Scooters Pizza was able to provide children nationwide with the opportunity to experience an exciting, interactive and fun-filled day which took the normal out of their day.”
Apart from leaving the store with cheesy grins and scrumptious pizzas in hand, each child received an apron and certificate to certify their qualification in pizza making.
